A method of enhancing the ductility of magnesium alloy sheets containing 85% or more by weight of magnesium is described. An annealed, substantially strain free, sheet of generally uniform grain size is locally deformed in local regions to develop strained ‘islands’ of a predetermined strain embedded in a substantially strain-free matrix and then annealed. The deformed regions undergo recrystallization and grain growth while the remainder of the sheet suffers only minor change in grain size, leading to sheet with grains having a bimodal size distribution. The ductility of alloys processed in this way is significantly greater than the ductility of the unprocessed, uniform grain size alloy without compromise to the tensile strength of the alloy.

A card is fabricated by fixing together multiple boards. By fabricating a card from multiple boards, the reliabilities of the individual boards may be tested independently. Failure of a single board component may not, for example, result in failure of a card so long as the reliability of a single board is determined before the single board component is fixed to the other board component(s).

Copper metal or metal alloy workpieces and/or aluminum metal or metal alloy workpieces are joined in a solid state weld by use of a reactive material placed, in a suitable form, at the joining surfaces. Joining surfaces of the workpieces are pressed against the interposed reactive material and heated. The reactive material alloys or reacts with the workpiece surfaces consuming some of the surface material in forming a liquid-containing reaction product comprising a low melting liquid that removes oxide films and other surface impediments to a welded bond across the interface. Further pressure is applied to expel the reaction product and to join the workpiece surfaces in a solid state weld bond.

A solder drawing member (402) is detachably attached on the outer side of a jet nozzle (303) that jets molten solder pumped from a solder tank (102) storing the molten solder. The solder drawing member (402) is made of a material having higher wettability to the molten solder than the surface material of the jet nozzle (303). Thus a force of separating the solder from a point to be soldered can be increased by a surface tension of the molten solder flowing on the solder drawing member (402), thereby reducing bridge phenomena and icicle phenomena.

The apparatus and process of the present invention provides for the automated, singulated dispensing of articles, particularly solid oral medication in predetermined quantities. The apparatus of the invention is a canister which houses a screw having a channel of a certain width and depth that corresponds to the dimensions of a particular pill type. The screw is removably mounted within a canister, such that screws having channels of various dimensions, corresponding to a particular pill to be dispensed, can be substituted into the canister. Upon rotation of the screw, the articles to be dispensed travel along a sidewall, pass under a singulation ramp, and exit from an aperture on the proximal end of the canister. A rotational driver-coupling is mounted to the proximal end of the screw, allowing for activation of the canister by engaging the screw. The present invention further describes methods of dispensing articles.

A centrifugal separator having a separation chamber and a collection chamber utilizes an axially-oriented structure which extends from the spin structure, or spin plate, up and into the vortex finder. The axially-oriented structure decreases turbulence within portion of the separator in axial adjacency with the spin structure, including the separation chamber in which the solids are collected. The reduction of turbulence substantially reduces the entrainment of solids in the rising stream of liquid flowing to the vortex finder, and thus increases the efficiency of the separator. The spin structure may comprise a truncated cone mounted with a portion of the truncated cone in the separation chamber and the remainder in the collection chamber.
